National Honor Society recognizes students for scholarship, leadership, service and character.  Membership is by invitation to Juniors and Seniors who have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA and are recommended by the NHS faculty advisory board. Invitations are mailed at the end of August to all students who have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA at the end of their sophomore or junior years to submit further material supporting membership.

NHS meets together three times a year (more if necessary); other communication is facilitated through email.  Members are required to perform a minimum of 30 hours of service each year, 15 hours being the student's choice and 15 hours involving group projects sponsored or supported by Yorktown's NHS chapter.  Members are expected to attend all meetings, maintain their cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above and uphold the standards of scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
